Product Overview
We mould injection moulded gears, so the tooth profile, the bore position and the hub geometry repeat from the first shot to the last. Against a machined gear, a moulded gear runs quieter because the tooth flank is formed rather than cut, needs no secondary tooth operation, and can carry the hub, the web, the snap features and the shaft bore in one part.
Material is selected to your drawing and the duty the gear has to survive. The grades below are the ones we run most often for this kind of gear, and any of them can be quoted — we confirm the choice with you at DFM rather than assuming it.
Gear types
- Spur gear discs with knurled rim and rib-reinforced web
- Helical gears with upper and lower hub bosses
- Worm shafts and multi-start worm gear pairs
- Double gears, planet gears and pinion gears
- Internal ring gears and gear segments
Tooling and process
- Gear parameter check and mould flow simulation before steel is cut
- Cavity steel NAK80 or S136, 1 to 16 cavities, hot or cold runner
- Tooth form verified on the T1 samples before production release
- Mould life 500,000–1,000,000 shots with maintenance
Materials
POM, PA66, PBT and PEEK. POM gives the lowest friction and the best dimensional stability, PA66 and PA66+GF30 carry load and heat, PEEK is used where the gear runs hot and dry.
